Top Floor

Topfloor hollow-core concrete floor panels have been an important contributor to the growth of the building and construction industry in the Western Cape since 1997. That role has been strengthened through the acquisition of Topfloor by the Echo Group, South Africa’s largest and longest-established prestressed and precast floor manufacturer.

As a direct result, the Cape industry has received an injection of the most advanced international technology, guaranteeing the best standards of quality and professional backup in the supply of hollow-core floor slabs. In addition, Echo’s renowned service quality, design input and on-site engineering support has been grafted on to the Topfloor operation.

All this enables Topfloor – created soon after South Africa’s achievement of democratic rule – to continue to play an important role in the Western Cape region’s government-funded social housing programmes.

Echo already has two manufacturing plants in Gauteng and one in Kwa-Zulu Natal, and its move into the Western Cape gives the 26-year-old industry pioneer a footprint for the first time in the Cape’s precast and prestressed floor industry.

Importantly, though, Topfloor, based in Belville South, keeps its name - a name built on a concrete foundation of quality and dependability.

Topfloor’s catalogue of existing products, services and applications has been expanded with creative new ideas by Echo engineers aimed at giving Cape developers and built industry professionals a wider choice of solutions which go beyond floor construction.

Among these are a new ground-beam foundation system designed expressly for social housing, and hollow-core panels for the construction of retaining walls and virtually impregnable security walls.
