The Building Centre respects your privacy. This notice explains what personal information is collected when you use this website or contact us, why it is collected, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

2. Information collected by this website

We do not use first-party analytics or advertising tracking cookies on this website, and the website has no forms of its own. We do not create visitor profiles. Third-party services described below may use cookies or similar technologies when you choose to load or use them.

Like all websites, our hosting provider's servers automatically record basic technical information when pages are requested, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the date and time. This is used only to operate and secure the website and is kept for a limited period, in line with our hosting provider's practices.

3. Third-party services on this website

Google Maps

Our interactive map is provided by Google Maps. The map is designed to load only after you choose to activate it. When it loads, your browser connects to Google, which may receive technical information such as your IP address and browser details and may use cookies or similar technologies, in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab).

YouTube video

Our embedded video uses YouTube API Services (Google) in privacy-enhanced mode. The video player is designed not to connect to YouTube until you choose to play it. Once loaded, YouTube may receive technical information about your visit and use cookies or similar browser storage. Google Forms

Our "Join Our Event Invitation List" and "Arrange a Guided Tour for Your Class" buttons open forms hosted by Google. Information you enter is stored by Google on our behalf and is accessible to The Building Centre. Google's Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab) also applies.

WhatsApp, email and telephone

If you contact us by WhatsApp, email or telephone, we receive the details you choose to share, such as your name, number, email address and message. WhatsApp is operated by WhatsApp LLC (Meta), and its own privacy policy applies.

Social media

Links to Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook and TikTok take you to those platforms, where their own privacy policies apply. This website does not embed their content or tracking.

4. How we use your information

We use the information you give us only to:

• respond to your enquiries;
• send invitations and information about our events, if you have asked to join our invitation list;
• arrange and manage educational visits;
• respond to exhibition space enquiries; and
• meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We will not use it for unrelated marketing without your consent, and you can ask to be removed from our invitation list at any time.

5. Sharing your information

We may share personal information with service providers who help us operate, such as Google (which hosts our forms), our website and email hosting providers, or where required by law. We do not sell personal information. If an event or visit requires us to share your details with an exhibitor or event partner, we will explain the arrangement when collecting the information and, where required, ask for your consent.

Some service providers may process or store personal information outside South Africa. We take reasonable steps to ensure that any such transfers meet the applicable requirements of POPIA.

6. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, or where retention is required or permitted by law. Invitation-list contact details are kept while you remain subscribed; you may request removal at any time. Enquiries and educational visit records are reviewed and deleted or de-identified when no longer needed, subject to applicable legal or operational requirements.

7. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No online service is completely secure, however.

8. Children

Our educational visit enquiry form is intended for teachers or school staff. Please provide only the information requested to arrange a visit, and do not include learners' names or other identifying details unless specifically requested through an appropriate process.

Where identifiable learners appear in photographs published by us, appropriate permission must be obtained before publication. If you have a concern about a photograph, please contact us using the details below.

9. Your rights

Under POPIA you may:

• ask whether we hold personal information about you, and request a copy of it;
• ask us to correct or delete it;
• object to our use of it, including for direct marketing; and
• lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

To exercise these rights, contact our Information Officer (below). We may need to verify your identity first.
